With wooden spoon and paddle to the top!
Last Saturday, the UP OIG Sports Office once again gathered sports and gastronomy lovers at Lake of Orfű, where the last major outdoor event of the year took place in the sunshine. Although the dragon boat regatta was originally scheduled for a different date, it had to be postponed due to bad weather earlier in the day, but the atmosphere was unbroken.
Ten teams hit the water to compete against each other. The rowing required not only skill but also excellent teamwork, as harmony and rhythm determined the outcome of the race. In the end, the MIKings were the fastest.

Máté Kristóf, Master’s student of architectural engeneering at MIKingek, recalled the preparation: "This was the sixth time that we from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology participated in the competition, and the fifth time we were present with two teams. It is a popular sport among students, so we thought it was important to give them a chance to practice. Two weeks before the competition, we practiced in Orfű, where we were able to prepare two boats.
The competition was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the atmosphere was great throughout the day."
The MIKings were closely followed by the Sárkányszív Klinika, while the Kontroll Csoport came third.
In addition to the sports programme, a gastronomic challenge awaited the participants, as Hungarian goulash was cooked in ten goulash kettles, prepared by the teams themselves. The cooking competition was also won by the MIKinges, with the Sárkányszelidítők taking second place and the Reumacsek taking third. Of particular interest, international students studying in Pécs also entered a team: although they still had some challenges in rowing, their meatless goulash was a unique and remarkable feature of the cooking competition.
According to Máté Kristóf, they also prepared seriously for the cooking competition, "Norbi Kovács, the president of the Student Self-Government, was one of the teams, and a civil engineering student was the other.
We've been working on this for years, but now we've managed to win the cooking competition!
Of course, our two chefs were also happy to cook for the students, and it was a special pleasure for them that everyone enjoyed their cooking."
During the two competitions, the participants could test their sports knowledge by answering quiz questions about the sports life of UP and Pécs. The correct answers won a sports quiz each.
Dr. Attila Miseta, the Rector of UP also participated in the event, and enriched the day not only with his supportive presence but also with his cooking knowledge. Dr. Miklós Nyitrai, Dean of the Faculty of the medical school, also came to encourage the teams. The UP for Families project contributed to the quality of the event as well.
